Avanci Aftermarket signs License Agreement with electronic toll collection leader Axxès

Pioneer in toll collection technologies joins Avanci Aftermarket program, licensing essential patented technologies used by its products

DUBLIN, Ireland, July 20, 2023 – Avanci, the independent leader in simplifying how technology is shared, today announced that Axxès, a leading European innovator of electronic toll services with more than 40,000 customers and over 300,000 equipped vehicles on Europe’s roads, has joined the Avanci Aftermarket program.

Avanci Aftermarket offers licenses for connected products installed in vehicles after their original sale, with more than 40 patent owners licensing their 4G, 3G and 2G essential patents through the program. As a licensee, Axxès will benefit from efficient and transparent access to patented wireless technologies enabling innovation in Europe’s interoperable/electronic toll collection market.

“We are happy to welcome Axxès to our Avanci Aftermarket program,” said Marianne Frydenlund, Vice President at Avanci. “Their commitment to driving innovation in the electronic toll collection sector aligns with our own mission to ensure that product makers can efficiently license patented technologies used in their automotive aftermarket devices. More broadly, this latest addition to the Avanci marketplace underscores our momentum in providing simple technology-sharing solutions across the automotive industry. We will continue to explore licensing solutions for new categories of connected products as the Internet of Things evolves.”

Electronic toll collection systems offer significant benefits, such as streamlined toll collection and efficient data collection among others. The European Commission promoted the creation of a European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) to enable road users to pay tolls and charges throughout the EU, through a contract with a single EETS Service Provider and with a single on-board unit. Particularly for freight traffic, this cross-border capability has significant potential to improve efficiencies for road hauliers.

“Axxès is at the forefront of transforming electronic toll collection for road hauliers, and in 2015 became the first registered EETS provider,” said Frédéric Lepeintre, chairman and CEO of Axxès. “We bring value to our customers by selecting and operating the right technical solution to allow them to operate their business more and more efficiently. Beside our expertise in tolling, we support our customers by providing smart and simple mobility solutions. We are confident that being an Avanci licensee will help us to continue to deliver innovative solutions to the market.”

Avanci continues to transform how companies share essential technologies. Its programs license essential patents for technologies created by thousands of inventors at companies and research institutes around the world, in a single transaction at fixed rates, paid once for the lifetime of the product. By streamlining technology-sharing to a single licensing agreement, Avanci Aftermarket provides an efficient and transparent way for manufacturers such as Axxès to access the patented cellular technologies used in their aftermarket devices.

Avanci welcomes Samsung Electronics

Leading global innovator joins several Avanci licensing programs, increasing value for licensees

Avanci, a leader in simplifying the sharing of advanced technologies, today announced that Samsung Electronics has become a licensor for several of its licensing programs, including Avanci Vehicle 4G, Avanci Aftermarket and Avanci Broadcast.

Avanci has transformed how companies share technology, enabling product makers to access patented technology from many companies and research institutes in a single transaction at fixed rates, paid once for the product’s lifetime. The Avanci model efficiently helps businesses unlock the potential of technologies created by thousands of inventors around the globe to create innovative new products for their customers.

Existing licensees of Avanci Vehicle 4G, spanning more than 80 auto brands, are now also licensed to the 4/3/2G standard essential patents (SEPs) of Samsung Electronics for their connected vehicles, extending the value of their license. Similarly, Avanci Aftermarket licensees are covered for their aftermarket vehicle products.

Avanci also recently launched Avanci Broadcast, a one-stop licensing platform for the ATSC 3.0 television standard. Samsung Electronics was one of the largest contributors to the development of that standard and is among the initial licensors for the platform, which collectively represent more than 70% of all patent families containing patents declared essential for the ATSC 3.0 standard.  Samsung Electronics is also the world’s largest manufacturer of televisions and is one of the initial licensees for Avanci Broadcast, which collectively have been responsible for the vast majority of ATSC 3.0 televisions sold to date. “We are delighted to welcome Samsung Electronics, a global leader in innovation and a long-term contributor to the development of standardized technologies, as an Avanci licensor,” said Kasim Alfalahi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Avanci. “This announcement reinforces the broad industry enthusiasm for the Avanci model and adds value for existing and future licensees at no additional cost to them. We look forward to working with Samsung Electronics and our other partners on efficient licensing solutions for today and in the future.”

Avanci Launches Aftermarket Licensing Program

Leader in licensing platforms for connected vehicles extends offering to aftermarket devices

DALLAS, Texas, February 21, 2023 – Avanci, a leader in simplifying the sharing of advanced technologies in the connected vehicle sector, has launched Avanci Aftermarket, a dedicated patent licensing program for the vehicle aftermarket.

Avanci Aftermarket builds on the success of the Avanci Vehicle marketplace for connected vehicles, offering licenses for connected products installed in vehicles after their original sale. These include devices installed in the vehicle, or used in a container, trailer or other equipment designed to be hauled by a vehicle.

Avanci has transformed the way companies share technology by licensing intellectual property from many different patent holders in a single transaction, at fixed rates, paid once for the lifetime of the device. By streamlining the technology sharing process, Avanci provides an efficient and transparent way for manufacturers to access the patented wireless technology needed for their aftermarket solutions.

Avanci Aftermarket launches with more than 40 patent owners licensing their cellular essential patents through the program, including many licensors from the Avanci Vehicle 4G program. Among the initial licensees are a company collecting road tolls and a leading provider of intelligent transport systems for the public transport sector.

“We are pleased to launch Avanci Aftermarket with the support of a significant group of licensors, and we welcome our first licensees,” said Marianne Frydenlund, Vice President at Avanci. “With our experience in creating the one-stop licensing marketplace for connected vehicles, the addition of vehicle aftermarket devices is a natural extension that builds on that success. We are committed to providing efficient licensing solutions for new categories of connected products as the Internet of Things expands.”

Analysts Berg Insight estimate aftermarket telematics as an annual market of over 45 million units today, with growth forecast to more than 70 million units in 2026.

Avanci Aftermarket licenses three product categories: monitoring only, infotainment, and other multi-function products. Royalty rates range from $3 per device for 3G/2G monitoring products to $15 per device for 4G/3G/2G infotainment products.
